the Friend of Intellivision has been delayed. Still. The console was due to launch in October. Now that has been delayed, with the company behind the console promising that the people who pre-ordered it will get the machine “by the end of the year.” This is the third delay experienced by the Amico.

In an email sent to people who pre-ordered the console, Entertainment Intelligence explained how disappointed he was was that he was not able to meet his initial schedule.

Here is an excerpt from the email that was sent late last night.

“We originally planned to launch Amico in the fall of 2020, but we had to adapt to the midst of the global pandemic disrupting our production. Despite our best efforts, and now faced with new and unprecedented international challenges of component supply and logistics beyond our control, we apologize as we are forced to push back the desired launch date once again.

Despite these supply barriers hampering our ability to fill all orders, we are focused and determined to deliver pre-ordered units by the end of the year. It will also give us more time to optimize our operating system for future game development. We want to make sure that those who have anticipated the Amico for so long, have the chance to benefit from it as soon as possible. Of course, we will keep all of our customers and interested parties informed and informed of our continued progress. “

It should be noted that this email was sent Friday night at midnight, almost as if they didn’t want people to talk about it until Monday. Hmmm …

First revealed in October 2018, Amico is a family console focused on smaller and cheaper games. The all-new Intellivision Entertainment is led by acclaimed video game composer Tommy Tallarico. The company began taking preorders for the system in 2019, with the promise of a release on October 10, 2020.

However, it was delayed a few months before that first release date and given a new launch date of April 2021. This date has not arrive and the console was delayed still until October 2021, one year after the first planned to go out.

Now that date doesn’t come either. IInstead, Intellivision only vaguely says that people who have pre-ordered will get their systems before the end of the year. (Probably.)

Making a video game is difficult. Making a video game console is even more difficult. Creation of a brand new video game console during a global pandemic is… well really, really hard. It is therefore not shocking to learn that the already delayed Intellivision Amico has been delayed once again.

But, hopefully the third time is the charm for people excited to get their hands on the device. Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled for more late-night emails from Intellivision. Although based on some leak specifications and others information I suggest waiting to see what this thing ends up being before it falls $ 250 on it.
