Like every year, the hype surrounding the Texas football program is through the roof.
Most of the high expectations this offseason center on newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and his impressive tree of assistant coaches. They are not only some of the best coaches in the college football landscape, they are also great recruiters.
Sarkisian is a seasoned offensive spirit who should open things up for this Longhorns attack. Running back Bijan Robinson will likely become a contender for Heisman in 2021, while Joshua Moore must be ecstatic after witnessing what Sarkisian may have done with Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith.
Before Sarkisian puts Texas in a position to make the college football playoffs, the Longhorns will need to clinch a Big 12 title – something they couldn’t do under former head coach Tom Herman.
In the United States TODAY Sports, ranking of college football far too early for the 2021 season, two other Big 12 programs were listed ahead of Texas. The Longhorns landed 20th overall.
The ousting of Tom Herman and the arrival of Steve Sarkisian will bring about an interesting culture change in Austin. Sam Ehlinger also leaves, leaving a huge hole in the quarterback. Casey Thompson, who played in the Alamo Bowl, and Hudson Card have the first chance to start in an attack that should be more aggressive downstream. Running back Bijan Robinson should be a star if the offensive line can provide enough holes and he gets enough carries. There are elements of defense to build if someone can put them together.
Other Big 12 teams in the ranking:
Oklahoma Sooners – # 3 Iowa State Cyclones – # 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys – # 23
