The day has finally arrived: the PS5 is now available, marking the start of a new generation of games for PlayStation fans. The PS5 and PS5 Digital, which retail for $ 500 and $ 400 respectively, have been nearly impossible to find in stock since their first pre-order in September. With launch day finally here, fans still looking to secure the next-gen console are probably hoping that they can finally buy the PS5 today. Here’s what you need to know if you want to buy a PS5 at launch or in the near future.
PS5 orders will only go live today
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will only be available in certain retailers’ online stores on November 12, due to security precautions around COVID-19. People who have already pre-ordered their PS5 and selected in-store pickup will still be able to do so. “Please don’t plan to camp or queue at your local dealer on launch day in the hopes of finding a PS5 console to buy. Be careful, stay home and place your order online,” Sid wrote. Shuman, Senior Director of Content Communications at SIE. in a PS blog post.
It’s possible that one of the major retailers may have the PS5 in stock online at launch, but timing and availability will of course vary widely. You’ll want to be in front of your computer most of the day, with your payment information handy, if you want any real chance of getting one of these consoles for yourself. Whenever the PS5 appears online, it disappears within minutes (sometimes seconds). Buying a PS5 online on launch day will involve a lot of refreshment and a lot of luck.
Which retailers will have the PS5 today?
Walmart is the only retailer to share actual restocking times for the PS5 today – and as a result, it receives a huge influx of traffic that keeps crashing the site. The first three replenishments at 12:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. ET have come and gone, the stock sells in seconds. It doesn’t bode well for the fourth and final restock at 9 p.m. ET, but it’s still worth a try. As usual, the stock will be extremely limited, so you’ll want to have your computer ready at that time. We also suggest that you create a Walmart account and make sure it is up to date with your shipping address and payment information to speed up payment.

Other stores restocked online around midnight (ET) last night, including Newegg, GameStop, Target and Sam’s Club. It’s unclear if any of these stores will have more stock today, but depending on how the Xbox Series X launch unfolds, your best bet today is Walmart. GameStop stores may also have limited stock today – call your local store for availability.
Playstation direct has a queue at its site, but at 12:17 p.m. PT, PS5 consoles are sold out at the site. A message says, “Check back 11/13 for availability,” so you might have another chance to buy the PS5 there tomorrow.
Best buy has confirmed that there will be no PS5 units in stores throughout the holiday season, so you will not see the PS5 in physical Best Buy stores until 2021. The retailer will not confirm that the PS5 will be available online for launch day and has instead kept its plans vague, saying the PS5 will be restocked online as soon as the store has units available.
GameStop has confirmed that there will be the PS5 in stores on Black Friday (November 27) when stores open at 7 a.m. All stores will have at least two PS5 consoles, so if you miss your chance to buy a PS5 at launch then you will have another chance, although the stock is extremely limited. We suggest you call your local store for availability. Walmart will also have the PS5 available for purchase online during Black Friday, and we expect other stores to restock as well.
Amazon, as usual, is the wild card. The company rarely shares plans on when it will restock popular items like consoles, and nothing has been said so far about when the PS5 might be back in stock.
Of course, you can still find the PS5 and its accessories on reseller sites like StockX and Ebay, but you can bet on hundreds of dollars above the MSRP for the console. For context, resale prices at StockX are currently between $ 800 and $ 900, although you can place bids to buy the console cheaper. Still, if you’re desperate, that’s still an option, and the site has plenty of stock.
We’ll continue to update this story as we track PS5 launch day availability, but for now you can check out the top retailer listings below. Plus, check out our PS5 review for more details and our thoughts on the new console.
