The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X may be the subject of a lot of retail spotlight, but there’s one more piece of gaming hardware you can’t miss this holiday shopping season: the NVIDIA GeForce. RTX 3080. NVIDIA’s super powerful new graphics card has been getting a lot of buzz on the web, but there has been only one problem… trying to buy one! While PC gamers have been more successful in getting the RTX 3080 than console gamers, limited stock has always been a real issue with the card. We’ve rounded up everything we know about GeForce RTX 3080 restocks below!
Understanding the GeForce RTX 30 series
Before you jump into restocking, it’s worth taking a minute to talk about the RTX 30 series, NVIDIA’s latest line of graphics cards. In the range, there are four cards: the RTX 3060 Ti, the RTX 3070, the RTX 3080, and finally the GeForce RTX 3090. In short, the higher the number, the more powerful the graphics card.
The GeForce RTX 3090 is the most powerful of the new 30 series graphics cards, but the RTX 3080 is the most popular of the bunch. Indeed, the GeForce RTX 3080 is the best value for the specs you get. The RTX 3080 is a perfect blend of technological improvements and cost efficiency, making it the most demanded card. The 3090 may be more powerful, but its price will scare off most consumers. You may also need better components, like a more robust power supply, which also puts off potential buyers.
With that, we’re focusing on GeForce RTX 3080 restocking for this item, but you should be able to keep up with any Series 30 graphics card at the same retailers.
When and where will the GeForce RTX 3080 be restocked?
There are several versions of the GeForce RTX 3080 on the market for you to choose from, but… well, they’re all sold out right now! You may see some RTX 3080 models “on sale” in places like Amazon, but these will be third-party sellers. PC player reports that this is an issue that plagues much of this year’s PC hardware releases, with similar shortages on AMD graphics cards and newer processors. It’s just a tough test all around.
Unfortunately, there just isn’t much information on when the GeForce RTX 3080 will restock. Graphics cards have seen an occasional restocking since its initial release, but they usually don’t have much warning. Tom’s Hardware reports that the inability to restock is due to a shortage of chips and a shortage of other materials. Right now all we can do is wait and see. If we learn more, we’ll be sure to update this article!
One of the best chances of getting the 3080 at this time is if you buy a Pre-built PC with the RTX 3080 in it, like the Alienware Aurora R11 or the ABS Gladiator. Of course, if you’re just looking to upgrade your platform and don’t want a brand new PC, this is far from the best option.
If you absolutely need an RTX 3080 by Christmas, StockX is always an option. With the prices inflated, however, I recommend you get away with an old graphics card and wait for retailers to restock.
General tips for restocking
Trying to get your hands on something with limited stock is really stressful. Make sure you’re giving yourself the best possible chance by following the tips below!
- Make sure you have an account in the store and that all personal information is updated. Restocking puts enormous strain on websites. On top of that, retailers will only allow you to keep it in your cart for a few minutes, if not that long, when it comes to items like this. Don’t waste your chance trying to update your address or payment information!
- Start refreshing the page early. Often times, retailers don’t stock EXACTLY when they say they do. It can be a few minutes early or late. Go to the store page for the desired item before the restock time. You might get lucky!
- Use Ctrl + F5, not just F5. This gives you a hardware refresh that does not pull storage information from the cache. So you won’t get outdated information and can see the “Buy” button ASAP!
- It is generally better to be on the computer than on your phone. While this isn’t always the case, mobile websites aren’t always optimized for quick refresh. Or optimized for mobile viewing at all, sometimes. However, sometimes you can have better luck on a mobile app than on a browser site. It’s not very often, however, so it’s best to try it out with your computer’s browser first.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Store Links
Typically, GeForce RTX 3080 restockings will only happen online, as many typical retailers will not carry it in-store. Here’s a handy list of retailers you can check out!
Unless you have specific and reliable information about an offline retailer storing the card, we do not recommend that you physically visit a store just to verify.
