Which Flyers will replace Frost and Myers?

Who could replace Frost and Myers? Elliott joins the exclusive company after a shutout. 01/20/2021 edition of the Philadelphia Flyers Phlight Deck.

After four games, the Philadelphia Flyers are 3-1-0. They’ll take that on the road on Thursday, heading for a four-game road trip. After a turnaround Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabers, the Flyers travel to Boston without three players. Alain Vigneault adjusted the roster well enough to secure a shutout victory with Brian Elliott in goal. Before we tackle the Boston Bruins, let’s take a look at where Philadelphia is now in today’s Flyers Phlight Deck, presented by Philly Sports Network.

Four Flyers unfit to play

Currently, there are four players on the Philadelphia roster who are marked “unfit to play” in any capacity. Shayne Gostisbehere is still in the process of developing a player security protocol for COVID-19. Sean Couturier is within his two week minimum due to a rib injury. Last night, Philippe Myers and Morgan Frost became additions to the list of “unfit to play”. For now, the extent of their injuries and recovery time remains to be confirmed.

Frost had won a role with Philadelphia after a good training camp. Once Couturier was injured by Jared McCann on a free kick in the boards, Vigneault initially placed Frost on the top line. Last night, in the second period, Jake McCabe placed a free kick on Frost in the boards behind Carter Hutton. Frost stood up, folding his right arm against his stomach. He wouldn’t come back to the game.

Earlier, the young center tried to get McCabe out of the puck in the neutral zone. There may have been accidental contact between the knees. Myers left knee did not appear stable during the crash. Until then, Myers was playing a physical game. He wouldn’t come back either.

Today, Philadelphia assigned Derrick Pouliot of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to the Flyers taxi team. Nate Prosser was already in the squad and Mark Friedman was on the 23-man roster on Tuesday night. Placing Pouliot on the taxi team suggests completing the list for an extended period while Myers recovers from his injury.

Connor Bunnaman is another player who was already on the 23-man roster on Tuesday. He’s likely to be the next man in Frost’s place. Since Pouliot occupies the available spot on the taxi team, a bettor can trust Bunnaman when playing against the Bruins. Vigneault can keep most of the lines like he did when Frost entered the lineup. It is possible that Bunnaman will play on the second row, directly in place of Frost.

41 Shutouts for Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott

A regular goaltender played a big part in Philadelphia’s rebound victory. Carter Hart made it through the night after a brutal Monday night. On Tuesday, it was time for Elliott to shine. He proved why Chuck Fletcher made the right choice to extend his contract during the offseason. Elliott, 35, could be the best substitute goalie in the league.

After the 3-0 victory, Elliott clinched the 41st shutout of his career. Not bad for a goaltender who hadn’t played since August 30, 2020. In 2019-20, he notched two shutout wins (Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings.) Elliott has always been a sure hand everything throughout his career against the Sabers. Throughout his career, Elliott is 14-2-2 against Buffalo.

His performance last night, saving forty shots in a shutout, places him among four other Flyers goaltenders (Steve Mason, Martin Biron, Roman Cechmanek, Darren Jensen) to accomplish this feat since 1980.

Safety of NHL players

In Monday’s 6-1 loss to the Sabers, Nicolas Aube-Kubel had a bad time. He threw a punch at Rasmus Dahlin as he came out of the neutral zone into the attacking zone.
