Recently, I had a dilemma. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I decided to buy a Tesla. The 3 and the Y are perfect for my needs. I decided to write the pros and cons for the 3 vs the Y, and the Standard Range (SR) and the Long Range (LR) for everyone. I have created two summary tables, one called Positives and the other entitled Considerations. If I missed it, let me know in the comments below.

Between the 3 and the Y, what makes more sense? It depends (the old economist's crutch). If you want to buy a Tesla immediately, the 3 is the best choice because of its immediate availability and US federal tax incentives. The Y will arrive in 18 to 24 months, and longer for international sales.

Do you agree with less space or do you want a bigger vehicle? The Y will be bigger, will have an option to accommodate more passengers and a hatchback. The 3 compensates for its small size by offering greater range, higher top speed and better acceleration from 0 mph to 60 mph.

Once you have decided which type of Tesla to buy, do you choose a SR or LR trim? I would say it depends (see above). It depends on your budget, your driving frequency over long distances, if you live in a cold climate and the length of your stay. If your budget is higher, if you have to travel longer distances, if you live in a colder climate or if you plan to keep your vehicle longer, the LR is your best choice. This ignores all the benefits of a Tesla compared to a similar luxury internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. As an example, I took my van to the Honda dealership today. My headlights and high beam did not work. There were 240 people in front of me in line. I turned around and went home. Mobile repair service for the win.

I am very happy to have my first EV and my first Tesla. Now, I need to convince my other significant. My children are already on board.
