White House calls for more transparency on health care prices

The Trump administration has been working behind the scenes for months on a strategy to impose increased price disclosure across much of the $ 3.5 trillion health care sector.

The push is based on existing administrative tools, according to people familiar with the discussions. These include the powers of the Labor Department under the law which sets minimum standards for private sector health plans and the current rules for payment of hospitalization fees under Medicare.
