White House economic advisor plans tight budget

Kudlow on "Fox News Sunday" outlined the budget strategy of the administration before the presentation of the 2020 exercise proposal on Monday. "It will be a difficult budget," he said, calling it "exactly the right prescription".

Funding for the wall would have brought in $ 5 billion from the Department of Homeland Security's budget, plus $ 3.6 billion from the Pentagon's military construction budget. Congress must approve funding for the 2020 fiscal year by October 1, failing which funding may become obsolete and the government will close.

Kudlow acknowledged Sunday that the proposal might entail another battle in Congress against the president's desire to create a wall. Trump, last December, triggered a partial government shutdown for a week on its $ 5.7 billion request for the structure.

The president then agreed to reopen the government without receiving any money. Last month, Congress had allocated $ 1.375 billion to creating obstacles, far behind the number desired by Trump. Trump then issued an emergency statement to bypass Congress and spend about $ 8 billion for a wall.

"I would just say that the whole issue of wall and border security is of paramount importance," Kudlow said Sunday.
