White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany declined to greet President-elect Joe Biden’s victory at a press briefing on Friday – his first press briefing since October 1 and since President Trump lost the election. Mr. Trump refuses to concede and continues to promote false allegations of voter fraud.
“The president has been very clear, he wants every legal vote to be counted,” McEnany said. She did not say when Mr Trump would concede, but said there were “very real allegations” of voter fraud without identifying any evidence. She has repeatedly called Mr. Biden “the former vice president” instead of the president-elect.
McEnany declined to comment on the ongoing campaign litigation, although she appeared on cable news networks as a campaign advisor.
McEnany said in his briefing that Mr. Trump’s meeting with Republican lawmakers in Michigan on Friday had nothing to do with the campaign, even though Mr. Trump has expressed a desire to undo Mr. Biden’s victory in the state.
On Tuesday, McEnany appeared on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s show, waving what she claimed to be 234 pages of affidavits under oath raising allegations of fraud in Wayne County, Michigan. However, Wayne County canvassers certified Mr. Biden’s victory in the county that night, and the president-elect’s victory was later certified statewide. There is no legal recourse to revoke a certification, according to the Michigan Secretary of State.
Regarding the pandemic, McEnany asserted that “the beginning of the end of the pandemic began under the leadership of President Trump”. She also touted the role of administration in helping to develop a vaccine. More than 250,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus and nearly 12 million Americans have contracted COVID-19.
McEnany has appeared frequently on Fox News in recent weeks. On Thursday, she said in an interview that restrictions put in place by states to mitigate the spread of COVID-19[female[feminine were “Orwellians”.
“The American people know how to protect their health. We have been dealing with COVID for many months,” McEnany told Fox News.
