White Sox’s Mike Wright and Tony LaRussa suspended after throwing on Shohei Ohtani

ARLINGTON, Texas – Chicago White Sox pitcher Mike Wright was suspended for three games and manager Tony La Russa was suspended for a Saturday by Major League Baseball, which concluded Wright had intentionally thrown Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels .

Wright appealed the suspension ordered by Michael Hill, the former Marlins general manager and MLB senior vice president for field operations. Discipline will be suspended until the appeal is resolved by MLB Special Advisor John McHale Jr.

The manager’s suspensions are served immediately and La Russa missed the Chicago game at Texas on Saturday. Bench coach Miguel Cairo steered the canoe in La Russa’s absence.

Wright was sent off after hitting Ohtani with a fastball with two strikeouts in the ninth inning Thursday in Anaheim in the Angels’ 9-3 win. La Russa was then ejected for the third time this season.
