White woman who allegedly threatened to call police on black couple at Brooklyn dog park – while telling them to “stay [your] hood ”- was fired from her job, said her former employer.
Emma Sarley, who was identified by the other dog owner, Frederick Joseph, as the woman filmed during the showdown at McCarren Park in Williamsburg, had worked for the virtual conferencing software platform Bevy, according to her deleted LinkedIn page .
“@BevyHQ has zero tolerance for discriminatory behavior of any kind. Yesterday an employee behaved contrary to our values and was fired. We sincerely apologize to everyone involved, ”said CEO Derek Andersen wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
“I personally hope that some type of resolution can occur between the two sides beyond that and help if I can,” he added.
Joseph, the man involved in the altercation with Sarley, reacted to the decision.
“I have been told that @DerekjAndersen and @bevyhq have abandoned Emma Sarley because her racism against me and my fiancé does not match their values. I hope this is a lesson in responsibility and consequences for Emma and the others, ”he said. wrote on Twitter.
Joseph had claimed the woman had confronted him and his fiancee as they left the dog park on Saturday.
“At the Brooklyn dog park with my fiance and this white woman threatened to call the police and told us to ‘stay in our hood’ because she mistook our dog for another dog that barked loudly,” Joseph wrote on Twitter.
Images posted by him on Twitter showed the woman trying to punch her phone and then giving it a finger.
“Did you just leave the dog park to tell us to stay in our hood?” Joseph could then be heard saying.
“Oh my God, did you just tell me that?” S – t, ”the woman said.
Joseph then turned to another man nearby and asked, “I’m sorry, you were right here and watched this whole thing. Didn’t she just stay here and tell us to stay in our neighborhood? “
“She did,” replied the man.
Joseph’s video did not capture what led to the confrontation.
Sarley could be immediately reached for comment on Monday.
His former employer said he had been in contact with Joseph about the incident.
“I spoke with @FredTJoseph about their horrible experience and that of her fiancé last night. So sorry for them for what happened. No one should treat people like we’ve seen. is extremely disturbing, ”said Anderson wrOyou on Twitter.
The NYPD said it was investigating the incident.
