(CBS4) – Authorities closed Interstate 70 in the Colorado foothills during the state blizzard on Sunday. Things are not going well in the eastern plains either.

At 1:45 a.m., I-70 experienced weather-related closures in the following areas:

– From Golden to Floyd Hill (on the border of Clear Creek County and Jefferson County)
– Airpark Road in Aurora to Burlington, near the Colorado-Kansas border
– From Silverthorne eastbound to Georgetown

Colorado State Patrol officials said in a tweet that the conditions at Floyd Hill were “brutal whiteout conditions.”

Some out-of-state drivers attempted to get to Colorado ski resorts amid the blizzard. A family in Orlando, Florida told CBS4 they took a detour on I-70 and got stuck in the snow.

“We are heading to Breckenridge to ski. Girls had to use the toilet. We couldn’t climb the hill with the two-wheel drive truck, so we backed up and he put it in the ditch, ”one family member said.

“What advice would you give to others if this was their first time driving in the snow?” CBS4’s Justin Adams asked.

“If you’re going to rent a vehicle, make sure it’s 4WD and not 2WD,” he laughed back. “Other than that, hey, that’s what it’s about.”

The family was able to borrow a tow rope and get back on track. But they probably won’t soon forget their Colorado ski trip in March.

According to meteorologist Ashton Altieri, a blizzard warning, winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are continuing in many parts of the state with additional build-up expected in all regions.
