The iconic 1992 blockbuster “The Bodyguard,” starring the late Whitney Houston, is slated for a remake, according to Variety.
Tony-nominated Matthew López for his play “The Inheritance,” which debuted on Broadway in 2019, is working on a remake of the classic film for Warner Bros.
“The Bodyguard,” which also starred Kevin Costner, 66, was an instant hit when it debuted nearly 30 years ago. The film – about a bodyguard who falls in love with a singer diva he was hired to protect – has racked up more than $ 400 million at the global box office.
And fans aren’t thrilled with the remake, with many taking to Twitter to express their frustration at yet another Hollywood overhaul.

Lawrence Kasdan of Kasdan Pictures, who was the writer-producer of the original film, and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing the new film. Nick Reynolds of Rideback will be the executive producer.
