There are only three days left before the NFL draft and the Green Bay Packers are holding two first-round picks. This can easily change since the first round will start Thursday night, but it would be very surprising not to choose the first day.
So who could target the Packers? We will hear more and more in the next few days, and legitimate reports will appear with many smoke screens, as is done every year.
Assuming the Packers stay around the 12th pick, here are several players that might be in play.
Ed Oliver
Oliver that lasts up to 12 years or more would be surprising at this point. Anything is possible, but his stock only seems to rise since his Combine and Pro Day workouts.
A player like Oliver could see the Packers go back from 12 years to make sure to land. His film as well as his practice numbers certainly seem to warrant a big shot and Oliver seems to be a special player at the top of his career in the NFL.
Quinnen Williams
Williams is another, like Oliver, that most faux-projects have disappeared since the Packers reached the clock at age 12. He comes from a very successful program in Alabama and his film shows him destroying an offensive lineman in a row.
If the Packers defensive line may be changing if they decide not to sign Mike Daniels after 2019, Williams would easily respond to this potential need. But like Oliver, the Packers should probably get Williams, so the question is: how much do they think of him?
Clelin Ferrell
Ferrell's football career began slowly in college, but he became an immediate-impact player as soon as he put the pads. He played the defensive line at Clemson, but stands as an attacker in the NFL.
He had a particularly good performance in the last game of the BCS championship against Alabama. Ferrell was a player in the co-defensive match.
Ferrell has been ridiculed since the top five until the late teens. Depending on how quickly the shifts are held, Ferrell could become a very intriguing option for the Packers if they want a prominent defender up front.
Josh Allen
The hype surrounding Allen has slowed since the start of the preliminary preparation process. He is still very promising and could very easily be in the top five. Just one team to fall in love.
In college, all that Allen had done was take up quarters. It's a primary need in the NFL, so it's surely a leading player, but if many feel it's an early choice, Allen is a player who could fall further than many people think .
For the Packers, they may have the problem of deciding whether they like Allen or Ferrell more.
Sweat ride
Add sweat to the last sentence. His athleticism is no longer an issue. He posted odd numbers to the Combined and ran the fastest time on the 40-yard dash (4.41) for a defensive line in Combine's history.
The sweat went through some drama at Michigan State before Mississippi State took him in the arms and that he fired. The Packers have been one of the most risk-averse teams for players with challenging backgrounds. Will Brian Gutekunst's plan be more lenient?
Sweat would immediately increase Packers' rush and, coupled with free agent signatories Preston Smith and Za Darius Smith, would make it an area where strength and need would be more important.
Like Ferrell and Allen, the Packers could choose between Sweat and Brian Burns from Florida State.
Brian Burns
Burns seems to be one of the most professional players in this project. He speaks well and has leadership qualities that complement his playing. As a freshman, he was an American player and also excelled in the special teams.
Burns is one of the few guys who comes on the first day, plays right away and has an immediate impact. If the Packers feel they need "this guy" in defense, Burns could be an easy choice for them. It also occupies a highly demanded position and is very worthy of a choice of up to 12.
Devin White
White is ready to play football 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. He will enter and light things up immediately, no matter where he lands. That said, the jury still has not determined if he is the best "Devin" of this project.
According to rumors, whites will not go past Tampa Bay in fifth place overall. If the Packers want whites, they will probably have to act to get it back.
At a position as linebacker, this does not seem to be the best use of project capital, considering what the Packers might be getting else by waiting for or even going back.
White is the player on this list that would surprise me the most to land in Green Bay, depending on his position and what it will apparently take to iron it.
Devin Bush
"The" Another Devin, Bush was mentioned as another internal linebacker likely to be selected earlier than later. He's flying everywhere when you watch his movie.
Online online, there are not many who do it as well as Bush. He plays downhill and has no football allergy. He is also an above average blitzer.
Some think that Bush is a better choice towards the end of the first round. If the Packers see this in their crystal ball and step back to take it or call it back in one way or another to catch it with their second round first pick, they have an incredible football player.
If Oliver is absent and the Packers are 12 in total, Bush would be my choice.
Noah Fant
Fant is the sportier of the two tight ends of Iowa who dominated the tight ends discussion this year. If the Packers seem really determined to make the tight part a central element of Matt LaFleur's offense, Fant might be an obvious choice here.
He has a bigger roadmap and will drive away defenders from other offensive weapons of Davante Adams and Aaron Jones. Although this production is not attributed directly to Fant, if he catapults the others to become a dominant offensive in the league, the value of Fant is greater.
The question about Fant is whether the Packers consider their 12th pick as a suitable place for him. And is it the tight end of Iowa that they prefer?
T.J. Hockenson
Recent gossip has more than Hockenson's name related to the Packers in recent weeks. Only Gute and his team know the truth over there, but they could do a lot worse than Hock if they're serious about taking themselves seriously.
Athletic ability does not seem as strong as other options, but Hockenson's size and abilities could translate into a star in the making. If it fits the profile and the Packers desperately want a tight end, they will probably have to use their 12th pick or go from 30 to the selection.
Hock is one of the players this year to focus. Some prefer Fant, others prefer Hock. Some prefer Irv Smith, Jr. although I do not consider Smith as a potential candidate, so he is not on this list.
Jonah Williams
An offensive lineman from Alabama will automatically sting a little bit of interest. Williams was mentioned among the best in this year's class. He can enter and play tackle or guard, which some teams may consider extremely valuable for their needs.
Williams did not play particularly well in the BCS championship game, thanks in part to another guy mentioned earlier, Clelin Ferrell. Part does not make a career, but it's a great moment of criticism.
Packers who use Williams early, even if they are 12 years old, are preparing the future rather than seeking an immediate impact.
Bryan Bulaga has recently had injury problems and seems to be headed elsewhere after 2019, but the Packers are probably hopeful that he will grant them another year to tackle tackling more seriously.
Taking a player that they theoretically did not expect to play in the first year so early would be surprising, it is the least that can be said.
Jawaan Taylor
Copy / paste comments from Williams to Taylor. Another potential offensive prospect, but he should target more if he starts to slip a little.
Unless Taylor is absolutely in love with Taylor, he will probably end up somewhere else, depending on the needs of the Packers and the people they will have the opportunity to choose earlier.
