Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, is a little different from the animated character from Star Wars.

Beloved Star Wars Character Ahsoka Tano, of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, finally appeared on The Mandalorian on Disney Plus during the new season.
Played by actor Rosario Dawson, Ahsoka debuted live in the episode of The Mandalorian titled “The Jedi.” Dawson’s portrayal of the animated character meant that some changes had to be made to Ahsoka’s appearance for the transition to a live-action format.
A major cosmetic change included smaller head tails, also known as montrals and lekku. Ahsoka had a short lekku at the start of Star Wars The Clone Wars but a much longer lekku in Star Wars Rebels and later episodes of The Clone Wars to show that they grew older as they got older.
However, in The Mandalorian Ahsoka’s lekku head tails are short again, which confused fans used to seeing his longer lekku in Rebels.
Star Wars character Designer Brian Matyas answered questions from fans on Twitter Nov 27 about Ahsoka’s new look. He explained that one factor in the change was related to the weight of the head tails. If the head tails were long it would probably make stunt fights more difficult.
Yes, that was pretty much the main concern. From animation to live action, I did a ton of exploration of the design for her and their appropriate size for the actor with stunts and movement in mind. I’m sure I will discuss this further in the near future!

“Can you share any conversations you’ve had regarding the size of his montrals / lekku?” Star Wars fan Jack Kennedy tweeted. “There is some confusion among the fans because they were a lot bigger in Rebels around the same time. I thought it was just impossible for the actors, but I was wondering if there was anything else.”
“It was the main concern”, Matyas responded. “From animation to live action, I did a ton of exploration of the design for her and their appropriate size for the actor taking into account stunts and movement. I’m sure I will discuss this at greater length in the near future.
Not all fans were happy with the changes to Ahsoka’s appearance in The Mandalorian.

I found this rendition posted earlier and it looks so much better after it’s age. ‘Ahsoka in relation to others of her kind and to rebels. “
Other fans suggested CGI for a quick fix to Ahsoka’s head tail length.
Ahsoka’s lekku head tails are much longer when she was an animated character.

“The krayt dragon in the first episode looked very real and detailed, the frog lady in the following episodes also great and realistic,” HousePanther fan tweeted. “These two creatures are involved in action scenes, so I always scratch my head as to why they are both better than Ahsoka who scares Tano.”
“Even though I see the complaints people have, I’m actually pretty happy with what we have”, fan Sean Merchant tweeted. “I have a question. Do you think in the future they could use digital effects to make their lekkus longer or not?”
