‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ special brought back Janet Hubert
Hubert’s relationship with the series grew strained after its Season 3 release in 1993. She was particularly critical of Smith and Ribeiro, whom she once called “Will’s stamp” in an old Facebook post.
Hubert also noted in that same post that she would “never” have a reunion due to issues with some of the cast members. But as she explained on the special, she felt that “it was necessary to [them] to move forward ”after 27 years of quarrels.
She was moved to a room where the other co-stars were waiting. But Ribeiro, who had been present for other scenes, was nowhere in sight. Some viewers have speculated on social media that his absence was due to lingering feelings about Hubert’s comments. But Ribeiro made it clear in an interview that this was not the case at all.

Alfonso Ribeira’s absence during Janet Hubert’s reunion has nothing to do with their story, he said.
When the Hollywood Reporter asked about his absence, Ribeira told the outlet that he had to leave early due to another professional engagement.
“Two or three days before the shoot, they were like, ‘Hey, are you available the next day? Unfortunately, I had to go and shoot [America’s Funniest Home Videos] That day. So all of the social media content and photos were taken without me, ”he said. “I literally did my own photo shoot on the couch so they could put me in the group photo. The special was shot in one day, but everything else was done on the other days.
But even if they couldn’t solve their problems, Janet Hubert says all is forgiven
Amid speculation as to why Ribeiro was absent from his reunion, Hubert took to Twitter with a message that read in part, “Forget it honey, we did it.”
She also posted a follow-up Tweeter expressing appreciation for the special and the opportunity to see him reconnect with his old TV family.
“I am so grateful for all the love shown and understanding. Will and his team let me participate in whatever I wanted and felt comfortable with. After 27 years of disconnection, we are all different people. It was great to see everyone, life is too short! she wrote.
