Morgan neville Roadrunner: a film about Anthony Bourdain delves into the enigma of the globe-trotting chef-storyteller, who died by suicide in 2018. Many of Bourdain’s entourage sat down for the two-hour Focus Features and CNN Films film (released July 16 ), who Hollywood journalist critic Daniel Fienberg calls “closer to the center of a… raw wound”.
This raises the question of whether too much collective blame has been placed on Asia Argento, Bourdain’s girlfriend. She has emerged as some sort of villain following her suicide for alleged infidelity. In Neville’s film, some of Bourdain’s friends still see her as such, but Argento – a prominent #MeToo activist who ended up facing charges of sexual misconduct with a minor she allegedly paid a settlement of 380,000 to. $ – was never approached to be in Roadrunner.
Ask by Hollywood journalist why Argento didn’t tell his side of the story, Neville said, “We looked at every aspect of Asian history, but found that the more we opened the door, the deeper the complexity. and the less insight the film had. “
THR has contacted an Argento representative and has yet to hear back.
