With the Super Bowl just days away, we are not yet in the midst of speculation season. But with the Lions and Rams taking a head start in the quarterback market by swapping Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff, NFL landscape writers have been trying to guess which QB will be next on the move and where it will go. Much attention so far has been given to which team can both convince Deshaun Watson to forgo their no-trade clause and offer enough draft capital and rookie players to make the deal happen. But Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal has an interesting new idea for a successful three-team trade, and he suggests the Bears could be involved.
“For that to happen, the Raiders would need to receive two first-round picks for Carr from a team other than the Texans, which they would then pack with their own first rounds in 2021 and 2022 to present a compelling first-four offer. – round picks at Texans for Watson, ”Bonsignore wrote.
It’s a wild scenario, but crazier things have happened. For everything to happen, Bonsignore says, obviously, a team would need to show a keen interest in Carr. That’s where the Bears come in. He’s identified them, as well as the Colts, Patriots and the football team as potential contenders.
Before turning it off, it might make sense for bears. Carr is one of the best deep pitchers in the league and has been explosive with Nelson Agholor in 2020. He could help unleash Darnell Mooney’s full potential. Plus, he’s one of the longest-lasting QBs in the league and one of the most reliable when it comes to ball protection. Since 2014, Carr has only missed two games. He also finished a season with 10 or fewer picks four times. Over the course of his career, he has an incredible TD / INT ratio of 170: 71.
Last, but not least, Carr is bffs with Khalil Mack, going back to their time together in Oakland. Mack and Carr were both drafted by the Raiders in 2014 and have developed a bond while growing as team leaders. Is this friendship going to move the needle in any direction for Ryan Pace? Probably not, but it’s an article of wild speculation. Everything is fine.
Will Carr light up the stats sheet with 400-yard passing games? Probably not. But it won’t put bears in bad positions. That alone could lighten the burden on the Bears’ defense, helping them regain their dominant form.
But don’t take it from me. On Monday, Adewale Ogunleye joined NBC Sports Chicago’s “Countdown to Kickoff” show and expressed a similar sentiment.
“We know in Chicago that we like to play great defense, so we’re going to have good defenses. But having a quarterback who can take the ball down the pitch a bit, someone who’s in good shape, who won’t return the ball and who will put points on the board when needed. To me, that doesn’t sound like rocket science. “
