Microsoft Co-founder Bill Gates recently took part in an interview where he revealed that he uses an Android phone rather than an iPhone. The discussion took place on the Clubhouse audio chat app with reporter Andrew Ross Sorkin. Presented as an informal discussion, it covered topics such as Gates’ new book How to avoid a climate catastrophe, the COVID-19 pandemic and technology.
Gates is the latest in a line of high-profile tech names that have made appearances on Clubhouse. Elon Musk and Robinhood co-founder Vladimir Tenev discussed the surge in GameStop sharing on the platform and Mark Zuckerberg discussed Facebook Reality Labs and remote working – while perhaps exploring the best way to integrate similar functionality into Facebook. These appearances have, naturally, helped raise the profile of Clubhouse, which has yet to come out of beta and is only available on iOS so far.
Sorkin kicked things off by referring to this, saying that when the interview was announced on Twitter, people asked: “Bill Gates has an iPhone?” Gates explained that he has an Android phone for everyday use, but also said he often plays with iPhones in order to keep up to date with everything. Explaining why he prefers an Android phone for general use, he said: “Some Android makers pre-install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easier for me and they are more flexible about how the software connects to the operating system, that’s what I’m done. by getting used to it. “
What else did Gates say about Clubhouse?
On Clubhouse himself, Gates said he had recently become familiar with the platform and had demos of it. He revealed that on most social media platforms he had an official account and an account for “messing around,” but that he prefers to spend his time online reading articles like The Economist and The New York Times. Pressed to find out if he was using Google or Bing, Gates described himself as “a loyal, loyal and loyal Bing user,” saying it uses Google to compare their performance in terms of competitiveness. Pressed to understand why a Porsche rather than a Tesla, he explained that his first car was a Porsche and that his Taycan “makes some noise.” He noted that he had bought Teslas for relatives and called him “the company that has done the most for electric cars.”
