Members of the royal family have many different titles, and most of these rankings change over time, depending on the identity of the current monarch. This is the case of Prince Charles's wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, but the royal title she will receive will override her father-in-law, Prince Philip, even though he is married to the queen for more than 70 years.
This is the reason why Camilla should rank higher than Philip and why the Duke of Edinburgh is not a king.
What is the current title of Camilla Parker Bowles?
At the time of her marriage to Prince Charles on April 9, 2005, Camilla received the title of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall, her husband being His Royal Highness the Duke of Cornwall. Because Charles is also the Prince of Wales, Camilla technically has the title of Princess of Wales.
It is still associated with the late Princess Diana and so Camilla decided not to follow him in public and instead uses the Duchy of Charles.
When camille
and the prince are in Scotland she has quite another title and is
called her royal highness the Duchess of Rothesay since Prince Charles
is his royal highness the Duke of Rothesay.
What title will it receive when Prince Charles will become king
As the heir
obvious, Charles is ready to become king one day and when he makes his titles and
Camilla will change.
According to The Express, once the throne rises, the role of Camilla will be strengthened according to Queen Consort.
Some may remember that at the time of their royal wedding, a large part of the public did not understand that the second wife of Charles would become queen. Therefore, in an effort to relieve the reproaches of the fans of Princess Diana, the palace announced that Camilla would go by princess consort not queen consort when Charles would be king. This announcement has however been removed from the Clarence House website and the royal experts agree that Charles will indeed make Camilla Queen Consort.
"When Charles takes the throne, Camilla will become queen consort," said Charlie Proctor, editor-in-chief of Royal Central. "The monarchy is not a popularity contest, and you can not change titles, lest some people still have chips on their shoulders."
Why Prince Philip never received the title of King
Some wondered why Camilla would get a status that Philip never got after his wife, Elizabeth, became queen. This answer comes down to the protocol.
The Latin Times noted that when a royal man gets married, his wife acquires the female form of his title, but it's not the same for royal women when they get married. This is why Philip's rank is duchy, not king.
