In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter after thursday episode, showrunner Krista vernoff explained his decision to give Meredith the deadly virus. “Last week we felt the pain of Meredith Gray as a doctor treating an early outbreak of COVID patients,” Vernoff said. “This week we are starting to experience what it is for her to be a COVID patient herself.”
