Why is McDonald's not a vegan burger?

[ad_1]

As consumer diets continue to shift to healthier foods, herbal alternatives are becoming more and more popular. Fast food chains such as Burger King, White Castle and Carl & # 39; s Jr. offer dummy meat options. But Mcdonald's – the world's most famous fast food restaurant – will he get on board?

In the 12 months to March 2019, restaurateurs increased their purchases of vegetable protein by 36%. This is in an environment where traffic in restaurants has remained relatively stable since 2014.

Traditional vegetarian burgers began appearing on grocery store shelves in the 1980s. Restaurants added them to their menus as an easy option for vegetarian dinners. But veggie burgers have also had a bad reputation. Made from black beans, lentils or tofu, they do not really taste like a hamburger. In fact, they are usually pretty bland.

Beyond meat and Impossible, foods are trying to change that. Their herbal burgers mimic the taste, texture and real appearance of beef. Beyond Burger uses pea protein and beet juice for flavor and texture.

The Impossible Burger has found its own secret ingredient: the heme. The molecule containing iron is found in our blood as well as in beef. This gives the meat a pink color and a metallic taste. To create a vegan burger containing the molecule, Impossible Foods uses genetically modified soybeans. And as an added benefit, the heme gives an impossible burger the impression of bleeding juice – like a meat pie.
