Why Marvel’s New Black Widow Is In The Hawkeye Show

Disney + ‘s Hawkeye TV show features Florence Pugh as the Second Black Widow – but what is her likely role in the next Marvel series?

Yelena Belova of Florence Pugh, successor of Natasha as Black Widow, should appear in the Disney + Hawk Eye TV series – but what role will she play? In the comics, Yelena Belova is Natasha Romanoff’s rival for the Black Widow’s coat. But it’s gradually becoming clear that the MCU’s version has a very different relationship with its fellow ex-assassin.

The MCU’s Yelena Belova to make her MCU debut in Black Widow, a film set shortly after Captain America: Civil War. Wanted for violating the Sokovia Agreements, Black Widow is forced to turn to her old “family” in the Red Chamber for help. Yelena and Natasha’s relationship is like two sisters, who can be tricky with each other, but regardless, love each other deeply. Although Pugh initially played coy about her MCU future, it has now been confirmed that she is appearing in the Hawk Eye Disney + TV series. Naturally, this leads to intense speculation about his role in the series.

In thematic terms, it seems Hawk Eye It’s about exploring the legacy of Clint Barton, the archer of the Avengers. Not only will the series feature Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, the second Hawkeye in the comics, but it will also feature a character who also took on Clint’s superhero identity, Ronin. Alaqua Cox will play Maya Lopez, a character sometimes referred to as Echo, who codenamed Ronin during Brian Bendis New Avengers run. The dynamics should be fascinating to see in Hawkeye’s show.

It should also be deeply moving. Hawk Eye is defined some time later Avengers: Endgame, which means Natasha Romanoff is deceased – and, for all fans know, that loss could be recent. Spider-Man: Far From Home confirmed that the Avengers had hidden evidence of time travel around the world, meaning they allegedly lied about Natasha’s death. Little is known about Yelena Belova’s history in the MCU; it’s even possible that she has her own history with Hawkeye, possibly crossing her path with him when he was tasked with taking out her older “sister”, Natasha. Whether or not this is the case, however, it seems Hawk Eye will see a reunion between key members of Natasha Romanoff’s two families – Yelena representing her Red Room family, Clint standing up for her time with SHIELD and the Avengers. In a strange way, then Hawk Eye is the true conclusion of the Black Widow MCU saga, and the opportunity to finally show those close to Natasha mourn her loss.
