Statistics never tell the whole story, and I can say the same thing about a TV show. Steelers Nation has seen quarterback Mason Rudolph cross tight angles and relive Sunday in the 24-20 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. I wanted to see the overview of the 22 cameras to see what Rudolph was seeing and what was missing.
This is not an attempt to hit Rudolph but to show some of the things he has struggled on and needs to improve on.
Rudolph has been subject to heavy rush all day with an unconventional offensive line, but every NFL quarter goes through it. The pressure hurt his progressions in the wide-sided and made him feel uncomfortable in the pocket, but when he had had the time, he had not gone through the progressions well and had never seemed to be comfortable in the pocket or on the outside. Rudolph stuck on a specific wide receiver, or one side of the field, which also led to undeveloped games. Fans can attribute a game to a game, but much of it is inexperienced and does not feel comfortable.
Rudolph has a great opportunity to shine Monday night in prime time when the Steelers face the Cincinnati Bengals. Will Rudolph come out of the game against the 12th pass defense, which could look like a third round or the Steelers' solution to the problems?
