Why the percentages of Steelers WR players must change in the week

It's Wednesday, and usually the last day to digest the past week, before turning the page to the next opponent. But for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were crushed by the New England Patriots in the first week of the 2019 regular season, this loss could continue.

There are a myriad of questions that fans are asking after the 33-3 defeat of Tom Brady and his company, but one of the biggest issues I had in mind was nothing to see with the Patriots. In fact, it had everything to do with the black and gold and some decisions that had been made.

Which question is at the top of my list for Week 1?

Why in the world did Donte Moncrief play so often and James Washington so little ?!

Of course, JuJu Smith-Schuster plays 90% of the snapshots is perfect. He is the No. 1 receiver. But Moncrief plays 90% and James Washington only 52%? That left me scratching my head.

Before rushing to judge, I searched the Steelers' website for the official depth chart and see if any changes had been made as the Team Week 2 match against the Seattle Seahawks approached.

No changes have been made. Moncrief was still listed as the No. 2 receiver in front of Smith-Schuster.

Although I do not suggest the Steelers make a quick decision and change the depth chart after a performance, I suggest that they should try to find a combination of receivers that work not only well together, but also with Ben Roethlisberger. In other words, the percentage between any unnamed Smith-Schuster receiver and Johnny Holton should be much higher, even in the second week, than the first week.

Personally, I would like to see what the Steelers offensive with Smith-Schuster, James Washington and Diontae Johnson would look like in the field. Johnson at least appeared on the screen during the game when he had the opportunity, so we all know what Moncrief brought to the table.

Again, Moncrief could, and with a little luck, bounce back and become a major contributor to the offense, but if Week 1 is only the beginning, it could be a slow and painful death in regarding his stay in Pittsburgh.

The hope is that the Steelers do not spend too much time banging their heads against the wall. Be ready to make a change, in play if necessary. If, or should I say when, they decide to give another shot to Moncrief, and his week 1 performance is overflowing on week 2, you have to get him off the field, especially with capable receivers who wait behind him.

Anyway, the Steelers are looking for offensive responses, and hope is to find their combination of recipients as soon as possible.
