One of Michigan's top targets in the 2020 category, A.J. Henning, has announced that he will make his decision soon and explain why it's good for the UM.
As for the goals of recruiting for Michigan football for 2020, nobody has more priority than four-star receiver A.J. Henning, the best player in Illinois.
Henning, a 5-foot-10 hopeful of Frankfurt, is the best player in the state of Illinois. It would be a great addition for the Wolverines, who are looking to add some pieces that will fit the Josh Gattis offensive.
When you talk about speed in space, Henning is an ideal prospect. He is a dynamic player who holds the ball in his hands and perfectly matches Gattis. He can play in the slot machine, he can come back and he can excel on the outside.
His recruitment has been from top to bottom. Michigan football has gained momentum and has apparently lost it. Notre Dame has been a constant threat to the Wolverines and this is the school Henning has visited most recently.

Notre Dame currently has 43% of Henning's crystal ball predictions, compared to 29% for Michigan football. 29% are undecided and Steve Wiltfong, recruiting expert, chooses Wolverines.
In addition to the two Midwestern rivals, Georgia recently imposed and after Henning went to Peach State earlier this month, the Bulldogs pose a real threat.
The highlight for Michigan came when Henning visited Ann Arbor with JJ McCarthy, the best player in Illinois in 2021. The four-star fourth-place quarterback and 19th in the country, is Henning's friend and he's engaged the same weekend.
This relationship seemed like a good thing for Michigan football, but since then it seemed like Notre Dame and Georgia had made gains. However, it's always hard to know what's going on in a rookie's mind.

One thing we know for sure about Henning is that he makes his decision soon. He announced Thursday that he would make his choice before his senior season and that a future visit to UM could mean very good things for Wolverines.
In fact, Michigan Insider Steve Lorenz speculated ($) that it was a good sign for the Wolverines. The timing certainly suggests that it could be. Henning is also supposed to go to Penn State, but the Nittany Lions do not really seem to be a suitor.
This would essentially leave Jim Harbaugh, Gattis and Michigan with the possibility of making the final argument. Of course, nothing is guaranteed and many things can change. But the timing of Henning's decision seems to indicate good things for UM.
