Wichita State and Gregg Marshall separate after worrying abuse and assault allegations

Wichita State and coach Gregg Marshall are set to go their separate ways this week after the school launched an investigation into his conduct following disturbing allegations by several of its former players, according to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

Marshall has been with the program since 2007, compiling a record 331-121 while leading the Shockers to seven NCAA tournaments and a Final Four in 2013. The 57-year-old, who is the most successful coach Wichita State’s all-time record, earned $ 3.5 million last season.

Former players make disturbing allegations against Marshall

Several former Marshall players have come forward over the past month and have alleged that the coach is both physically and verbally abusive.

Marshall has been charged with hitting a player multiple times in Wichita state, putting his hands around the neck of a staff member, and even attempting to punch another Shocker student-athlete by the window of his car during a road rage incident in a parking lot. He also allegedly shamed another former player during training by grabbing his stomach.

He also allegedly provoked a Native American player by emitting “Indian howls” and telling him to “get back on horseback”.

Marshall denied the allegations and said he had “never physically hit a player or a colleague”.

However, several of his former Winthrop players – where he coached from 1998 to 2007 – then made similar allegations. Former players there have said that Marshall pokes fun at a player’s sanity, has repeatedly captured players and even once threatened to send a player “back to Africa”.

The state of Wichita has launched an investigation into Marshall’s conduct and, according to Goodman, is now preparing to part ways with him.

While the Shockers’ full schedule has yet to be released due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are expected to open their season on November 25 against the state of Utah.
