Good neeeeeews! The long-awaited film adaptation of the Broadway blockbuster Universal Mean finally found a director. According to the deadline, sources say John M. Chu will direct the musical (it’s still produced by Ben Platt’s father). Chu has experience in adapting musicals for the big screen with his film delayed until 2021 by Lin-Manuel Miranda. In the heights, and Crazy Rich Asians definitely has some Oz-style glitter. Recently, Chu left the Disney + series willow “Due to issues with COVID-19 which continued to push production,” according to Deadline, thus freeing up his schedule to work Mean. The adaptation of Stephen Schwartz’s musical suffered multiple delays, and last fall director Stephen Daldry left the project. Thank goodness Chu is on board. We couldn’t be happier.
