Another member of the Recruiting Class of 2020 is no longer on the Nebraska football roster.

The Head Coach Scott frost confirmed on Monday that news regarding the first-year catcher Marcus Fleming. His name also appeared on the transfer portal shortly after the Zoom press conference.

“Marcus, we wish him the best, he will not be on the squad anymore,” Frost said. “We’re going to move on and I feel good in this position she is in.”

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound Fleming was a four-star rookie from Miami Northwestern in Miami.

Fleming has appeared in four of Nebraska’s five games, receiving five receptions for 75 yards against Northwestern. Coming into Nebraska’s final game against Iowa, Fleming placed fourth on the team in receiving with those 75 yards. But Fleming did not travel with the Huskers to Iowa, and there were photos of him on social media at the airport, apparently on his way home.

The Huskers lost another Miami-based freshman a few days ago, with a defensive back Ronald Delancy III appearing on the portal Friday after the Huskers’ 26-20 loss to Iowa. He was also on the travelers list last week. Nebraska has lost five Class 2020 rookies, and they’re all out of the state of Florida. Recent departures add to linebacker off-season losses Keyshawn Greene, cornerback Jaiden Francois and defensive back Henry gray.

Frost said the Huskers need to make sure they recruit the right players for Nebraska, not just the right athletes. He believes the COVID-19 situation has also made it even more difficult for newcomer athletes away from home in 2020.

“I think it affected our young players a bit,” he said. “Being on campus and seeing students everywhere, being able to go out in Lincoln and see the whole Memorial Stadium – it’s definitely a benefit to us when we bring kids to Lincoln, and we haven’t been able to. We weren’t able to get people to talk to the team, we didn’t have that much time with him this summer.

“But I think it’s a different time. I think kids are a little different these days. But there’s no reason you can’t motivate yourself to be modeled on something that has. obviously worked for a long time. “

Frost again said Monday that he felt Nebraska’s culture had “got better and better” despite the departures. He hopes to spend more time with the young men after some of the COVID-19 restrictions go away, hopefully in 2021.

Still, “we’ve got to make sure we’re going to recruit the type of kid that is going to thrive in Nebraska. And I think some kids are going to come here and assimilate and love him. Maybe there are some kids there. has a few others who wouldn’t. I’ve been elsewhere (as a player) and it didn’t suit me so it’s not unusual. But this year has been tough as well. …

“But that starts with making sure we have the right kids. I also think that nowadays there’s a little more impatience. I was a pretty high-ranking guy coming out of high school, and I didn’t. played before my fourth year in college. It’s not unusual. It still works pretty well. But a lot of kids now, if it doesn’t work immediately, get impatient. So we try to teach our guys patience and resilience, as far as that goes too. “
