Sarah Horsley, widow of Major Hugh Lindsay, criticized the Netflix series “The Crown” for referring to the death of her husband in a season 4 episode.
Major Lindsay, the Queen’s former squire, was killed in an avalanche in March 1988 while skiing with Prince Charles in Klosters, Switzerland.
In Episode 9 of the season, audiences watch an avalanche erupt on the mountain, but it actually doesn’t represent anyone trapped or dying.
A few scenes later, it is announced that Prince Charles survived, but unfortunately the Major did not.

“I was horrified when I was told [the episode] was happening and was very concerned about the impact on my daughter, ”Horsley, who was working at the Buckingham Palace press office at the time of her husband’s death, told the Sunday Telegraph. “I am very upset and dread people to see it.”
She even wrote to the show’s producers and requested that the script not be used at all.

“I wrote to them asking them not to do it, not to use the crash,” Horsley described. “I guess the royals have to smile and put up with it, but for me it’s a very private tragedy.

Instead of honoring his wishes, the producers wrote Horsley “a very kind letter” explaining “that they understand my concerns, but they hope I will feel that they treat difficult subjects with integrity and a high sensitivity.”
She added: “I think it’s very mean to a lot of family members. [to dramatize the accident]. “
Princess Diana was with the group on the ski trip but stayed at the hotel that day. She told Andrew Morton in her 1992 biography “Diana: her true story – in her own words”, that the event was “horrible”.

“What a nice person he was,” she recalls. “Of all the people who have gone, it should never have been him.”
