Widower describes drive-by shootout that killed his wife

The widower of a mother of six who was shot dead in what North Carolina officials described as a road rage shootout speaks out about the traumatic incident.

In an interview with NBC affiliate WGAL, Ryan Eberly described the violent road rage incident that killed his wife, Julie Eberly, 47, last week.

“In three minutes, my whole world is upset, and I don’t know why,” he said.

The Pennsylvania couple were on their way to Hilton Head, South Carolina for their wedding anniversary, when Eberly said he mistakenly cut a driver on Interstate-95.

But then, police said last week, the couple’s vehicle approached the suspect’s vehicle as Eberly pulled into a lane. This prompted the driver of the other vehicle to stand on the passenger side of the victim’s car, roll down his window and fire “several shots at the passenger door,” police said.

“My wife called out my name and I asked if she had been punched and she said yes,” Ryan told WGAL.

“As a husband, I need to do everything in my physical power to do everything I can to do him justice.”

Last week, the North Carolina Robeson County Sheriff announced a reward of $ 10,000 for any information leading to the suspect, which was increased to $ 20,000 on Tuesday when authorities released new images of the suspect’s vehicle. .
