Georginio Wijnaldum is confident that Adrian will come back strong after his mistake against Southampton on Saturday.

The Liverpool midfielder pointed out that Alisson was far from perfect at the start of the season last season after the Brazilian was caught in possession of the ball in an attempt to make a bend to Cruyff – thus offering a goal to Leicester.

Liverpool still won the match, as was the case on Saturday Adrian gave Danny Ings a goal for Southampton in Liverpool's 2-1 win.

Wijnaldum, speaking from Adrian, said: "This kind of thing can happen with a goalkeeper.

"Last season, this happened between Alisson and Leicester City, during a pre – season friendly match.

"How is he [Adrian] will react to the error? I think it is more important than the mistake itself.

"Anyone can make a mistake, even a goalkeeper. But the only thing to do is that he is a goalkeeper and he often makes a mistake, that gives rise to a goal. "

Adrian still settles in Anfield after his arrival shortly after the announcement of Simon Mignolet's transfer to Club Brugge.

The former West Ham player was involved in the game during the opening game of the season when Alisson was injured during the win over Norwich.

Adrian took over from Alisson in the shootout win over Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup. He was the hero before suffering a strange injury after hitting a fan on the field.

Wijnaldum added: "Everyone needs time to adapt. It's just for, not even two weeks, so we have to get used to each other.

"It would have been easier had it been from the beginning with Simon and his return.

"Now we just have to take the time we have, train and get to know each other better, because everyone needs time to settle in – I also had it when I got here – I think that all the people dedicated to signing them have signed for Liverpool. Then he will be fine.
