Will Smith has spoken candidly about his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith after finding out earlier this year that she had had a romantic “entanglement” with another man.
In July, Jada appeared on her Facebook Watch series “Red Table Talk” with her husband, where she directly addressed rumors of an extramarital affair. Jada admitted that about four and a half years ago, she and Will separated with the intention of a divorce, and during their separation, she had a “relationship” with August Alsina.
Speaking to GQ, Will discussed some of the revelations that will appear in his upcoming “Will” memoir. Interviewer Wesley Lowery read an advanced copy of the book, noting that the “Men In Black” actor does not go into details as much of it was released to the public in July.

“Jada never believed in conventional marriage… Jada had family members who had unconventional relationships,” Will says of his wife for 23 years. “So she grew up in a very different way than I grew up. There have been endless important discussions about what relationship perfection is? What’s the best way to interact as a couple? for much of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not seeing monogamy as the only relational perfection. “
He added: “We have given each other confidence and freedom, with the conviction that each must find their own way. And marriage for us cannot be a prison. And I am not suggesting our route to anyone. I do not do it. . I am not suggesting this route to anyone. But the experiences that the freedoms we have given ourselves and the unconditional support, for me, are the highest definition of love. “

Smith said he wondered whether or not to recount the disclosure of Jada’s time with Alsina in her book, but ultimately decided not to because he felt it wasn’t a story that he could relate correctly from his point of view. He also felt that it would only do more harm than good in terms of public perception of the events.
“The audience has an impenetrable narrative,” Smith said. “Once the audience has decided on something, it is difficult if not impossible to dislodge images, ideas and perceptions.”

He explained that there were already misinterpretations of their episode of “Red Table Talk”, namely that since Alsina’s disclosures were the driving force behind the discussion, many viewers left thinking that Jada was the only one having sex outside of marriage. Will revealed that was not the case.

However, Lowery explained that after speaking with Jada, Will declined to elaborate on the matter.
