Yesterday, we had a preview of the Apple Watch Series 5. Although it has a new LTPO screen and software updates, the life of its battery, which lasts 18 hours, has not exchange.
This is an omission that I noted in my initial article on Series 5, which has been taunted by many Apple Watch users in the comments. Some noticed that their Apple Watts Watches regularly exceeded the 18 hour estimate, even with GPS exercise tracking. Some commentators noted that they easily got around 48 hours with a single charge. Others said that the battery life of several days mattered little, the watch charging quickly. In the Gizmodo office, some frequent users of the Apple Watch have indicated that they do not care because a busy day was more than enough. Others have noted that the relatively short life of the battery is the main reason why it will never charge.
Apple Watch Series 5 brings software upgrades, not much else
It's no surprise that Apple today announced the next iteration of its Apple Watch. But where last …

This nonchalance of Apple Watch fans is somewhat surprising. Other competitors, such as Fitbit and Garmin, point out how long the battery can last between charges. The Fitbit Versa 2, for example, spent 7 days in testing. This long battery life allows for popular features such as native mode sleep tracking, a feature widely used for Series 5, but ultimately unsuccessful. The other advantage is that the more batteries you carry, the more you can stay with the laptop. The more often you load, the more likely it is that dust will accumulate in your drawer.
So, would Apple prefer to give priority to new features rather than to battery life … or does it because it knows that fans have learned to adopt night charging? Do Apple fans know that even if the watch is loading quickly, there is no strategy for charging your routine either. Is this a form of Stockholm Syndrome gadget? Does not it really matter? It's odd, since Android users regularly test WearOS watches for just one day and the improved battery life is a big advantage of the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset. Long life Battery is one of the most requested features by the manufacturers of clothing devices during events.
Personally, I spent a lot of time with the Apple Watch Series 2-4, and the longest I had was around 36 hours. This varies depending on the new features and the number of apps I use (Spoiler: I use a lot and check my activity rings obsessively.) I've also I was frustrated a handful of times when I forgot to load the watch and ended up with a dead device and unclosed rings. This happens much less often with, for example, the Fitbit Versa 2. When I find that I have a 25% battery, I know it will take me at least another 6 to 8 hours, sometimes more. Conversely, if I'm only 20% on my Apple Watch Series 5 in the early afternoon, it will probably not be the rest of the day.
Clearly, Apple does not need to lengthen the battery life for the watches to sell. I'm just saying that if that was the case, its dominance would be complete, with the exception of Android users. But for now, it only remains to wait and see all the power consumed by the permanent display on the Series 5.
