Willow Smith is entering a new chapter in her life, and she enters this new moment leaving something behind: her hair.
On Friday, the 20-year-old singer released her new album, “Lately I Feel EVERYTHING”, and alongside the release, she also produced a concert with Facebook Watch. She ended the almost hour-long set with a new punk rock take on the song that made her famous in 2010, “Whip My Hair”.
“My favorite song in the set right now, just because of the feel of singing, should probably be ‘Whip My Hair,” Smith, who is the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, said during a shoot. behind the scenes interview.
“I’m thinking of shaving my head during the ‘Whip My Hair’ show,” she added later. “This will be the third time in my life to shave my head. I always shave my head at monumental times in my life when things really change and this is definitely one of those times.”
Towards the end of his energetic performance, Willow sits in a chair while someone shaves her head while she continues to play the guitar.
Fans seemed to really like the moment and his new music in general.
One fan commented: “That head shave was EPIC !!!! Willow you’re THAT GIRL !!”
Another wrote: “Willow you are a musical genius … wonderful, just wonderful.
During the concert, Smith also spoke about why, over the past decade, she had struggled to come to terms with her first single, released when she was just 9 years old.
“So when I did ‘Whip My Hair’ I didn’t really know that was an important thing, because I was just expressing my joy and I was just expressing myself,” she said. “Young Willow was so fearless. She was like, ‘I’m going to do it. I’m going to do it right. And if you don’t like it, then I’m sorry.’ “
Ever since Smith changed the genres of music with her new punk rock project, she says that although her sound is different, the message has always remained the same.
“Even though ‘Whip My Hair’ is so different from anything you’ve done, it still has a similar message,” one of his bandmates pointed out during a backstage moment.
“Oh my God, it’s the same,” she replies. “Be yourself. The central idea of ’Whip My Hair’ is the central idea of all my music. The genres change, but I say the same thing every time.”
“For so many years, I kind of spiraled around and didn’t really understand that, and wanted to walk away from it, not having that understanding,” she added. “I push away the very thing that is who I am.”
“I want to promote positivity. I want to promote expression, and I feel like ‘Whip My Hair’ was just a huge encouragement for people to be themselves and help others do the same. “
Smith also inspired someone else to shave his head: his mother.
Pinkett Smith shared a screenshot from an Instagram post that Smith shared earlier on Monday. Photo shows the two women with shaved heads as a smiling Smith rests her head on her mother’s shoulder.
Smith captioned the sweet photo, “A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and in the right place, and when we expect nothing in return.”
