Windows 1.11 is a promotion for "Stranger Things"

Last week, Microsoft began to mysteriously tease the first version of Windows on Twitter. Now we know why. It's just a link to a TV show.

"Introducing the all-new Windows 1.0, with MS-Dos Executive, Clock, etc.," says the official Windows account tweeted. He later tweeted Excel, Chart and even Flight Simulator, "other Microsoft products of the 1980s. And much more.

The account has also replaced the original logo of Windows 1.0 by its profile picture. This logo indicated that this system only supported tiled application windows, not floating windows.

And he changed his header picture to another fun image of Windows 1.0.

Clearly, something was happening. I had theorized that Microsoft was inspired by my Programming Windows series and was starting to become nostalgic for the 1980s. But no. All it has is a promotional link for the Netflix series Strange things, which has just launched its third season, which took place in 1985, the year of the release of Windows.

And part of that promotion included a new Microsoft Store application for Windows 10 called Windows 1.11.

"With Windows 1.11, experience the nostalgia of 1985 with a special edition PC application inspired by Windows 1.0 and Stranger Things 3," says the Microsoft Store about the Windows 1.11 application. "Play games, discover clues and Easter eggs and discover secrets, as well as unique content from Stranger Things 3. But beware of the flayer mind …"

According to the shop, Windows 1.11 is currently not available for any reason. But it was apparently available earlier this weekend, so maybe it's only a temporary problem. Expect to see him return to the store on Monday, July 8th.

Speaking of glitches, it's amusing that Microsoft becomes nostalgic, but The Verge says the word "Microsoft" is never spoken once. Strange things season 3, no character uses a PC. (I have not watched it yet.) Classic.
