Country House won the 145th Kentucky Derby on Saturday after Maximum Security became the first horse to be disqualified from the history of the race. Maximum Security crossed the finish line first, but there was an objection on the field and the horse in second place, Country House, was declared the winner.

An objection was filed by Jon Court, who was on Long Range Toddy, and by Flavien Prat, the Country House jockey. They claimed that maximum safety had hindered the progress of the other horses. Three stewards immediately reviewed the reruns to determine if maximum safety had swung into the War of Will trail and other horses.

After deliberating for nearly 25 minutes, the stewards unanimously decided that Maximum Safety was leaving his lane at the end of the last lap. In doing so, he also blocked Long Range Toddy and Country House in the last corner.

Barbara Borden then issued a statement on behalf of the stewards. She said that the final position of Maximum Security would be behind the worst placed horse, according to their procedure. In this case, horse No. 18, Long Range Toddy.

Country House, ridden by Flavien Prat, won the Derby at 65-1. This means that a bet of $ 2 would bring in $ 132.40.

"It's a great moment – it's a dream come true," said Pratt, delighted after his victory. "I mean, there is no race like the Kentucky Derby, and I hoped to one day ride it, the Derby and win it."

This is the second victory for the 3-year-old male colt, Country House. His first victory took place in January at Gulfstream Park. In his previous three races, he has ranked third, fourth and second respectively. He is also the son of Lookin at Lucky, winner of Preakness States 2010 and Indiana Derby 2010.

Saturday's decision allowed coach Bill Mott to clinch his first victory at Churchill Downs. The 65-year-old called the victory "bitter-sweet".

"You always want to win with a flawless trip and everyone recognizes the horse as a very good horse and for the great athlete he is," said Mott at a press conference. "I think because of the disqualification, part of it is reduced, but it's horse racing."

The rain spilled for nearly an hour before the end of the game, forcing officials to degrade the condition of the track for the third year in a row. This year's race was also tinged with dramatic scenes before the race, while the favorite, Omaha Beach, was forced to retire due to breathing problems.
