Federal forecasters expect the Washington, DC area to receive up to 6 inches of snow on Wednesday, but precipitation will turn into ice and rain, creating a messy evening commute. More than a quarter of flights were canceled at each of the three major airports serving Washington DC. The New York area is expected to receive less snow and a winter mix followed by rain.
