The agency reported the state total on Thursday in its weekly report on winter storm deaths.

About 390,000 Texans are still on boil water advisory following winter storm

The deaths included in Thursday’s report occurred between February 11 and March 5 and the majority of deaths reported to DSHS were associated with hypothermia, the agency said.

“There have also been many deaths from motor vehicle crashes, carbon monoxide poisoning, medical equipment failures, worsening chronic diseases, lack of oxygen in the home, falls and fires, ”the report said.

The news comes more than a month after a severe winter storm hit the region. Texas, normally known for its heat, struggled to cope with the storm due to widespread power outages and water disruptions that left thousands of people frozen for weeks.
As of Wednesday, there were still 127 residents of the state on a boil water advisory, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
