Winter weather advisory with 2-4 inches of snow expected

STRAIT – We’ve been telling you all week to prepare for this, and today is the last day for shopping if you don’t like being outside in really cold weather.

Here’s a look at what lies ahead:

Most daylight hours should be dry. A little snow may approach southern counties of Lenawee and Monroe in the late afternoon but, again, the day is expected to be mostly dry.

Most of the snow will fall between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., and now it looks like we’ll see less of a rain or mixed pass – the best chances of seeing this are south of Detroit and east of US-23. As such, most of the moisture available for this storm will fall as snow, and I now expect general snow of two to four inches in Southeast Michigan, with a fairly solid fall. tonight.

As a result, the National Meteorological Service issued a winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.

The snow should end in the middle of the night, and then we’ll be dry until Friday morning. Some lakefront snow bands will stretch across the state on Friday afternoon, and I think the best chance to see them will be north of 8 Mile.

Saturday looks dry, then there is a chance for some snow on Saturday night, ending early Sunday morning. I don’t expect much buildup from this.

It will get a little windy in the late afternoon, but the true wind won’t kick in until the arctic front gets closer later Thursday evening. The wind could be 30 to 40 mph from the south ahead of the front, then as the front crosses the area the wind will move southwest with gusts of around 40 mph possible. This wind will continue until Friday.

Today, temperatures will rise to around 30 to 30 degrees (0 to 1 degrees Celsius) this afternoon, and will actually rise a little more in the mid-1930s (2 degrees Celsius) tonight. Once that arctic front crosses, temperatures will start to plummet, and we’ll be in our twenties (-5 degrees Celsius) by dawn on Friday.

Temperatures during the day on Friday will continue to drop, and we will be in the upper adolescence (-8 degrees Celsius) by late afternoon. Cold temperatures are stepping up this weekend, with highs in mid to late adolescence (-9 to -8 degrees Celsius), and nightly lows well below single digits (-15 to -13 degrees Celsius) ).

The aforementioned arctic wind and air will make it feel much colder outside than what the thermometer is reading. Friday afternoon the wind chill will be around zero (-18 degrees Celsius).

Saturday’s wind chill will be zero to 5 above zero (-18 to -15 degrees Celsius).

Sunday wind chill will be between zero and 5 below zero (-18 to -21 degrees Celsius).

The snow that falls on Thursday evening will be wet snow and (especially if you have rain on it) that snow will freeze into a large chunk of crud which will be very difficult to remove. If you have the capacity, I suggest going out as late at night as possible to shovel snow before the temperatures drop.
