A “Wipeout” competitor died after being hospitalized after an attempted obstacle course … TMZ has learned.
Production sources tell TMZ … a male competitor needed medical attention Wednesday after finishing the course, and he was being treated by emergency personnel on site who then called paramedics.
We are told that the candidate was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Our law enforcement sources tell us they received a cardiac arrest call just before noon on Wednesday, and medics on the set had already started using a defibrillator on the competitor, who was experiencing chest pain after completing the course.
We are told that there are precautions and safeguards in place on the set. For example, each “Wipeout” competitor undergoes medical examinations before participating. There are also 2 paramedics on site, as well as a security producer and paramedic coordinator.
“Wipeout” is set to reboot on TBS soon after it originally aired on ABC from 2008 to 2014, and TBS tells us… “We are devastated to learn of his passing and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family.
The production company, Endemol Shine North America, says … “We offer our sincere condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
