Wisconsin Badgers RB Jalen Berger excluded from program

Wisconsin red running back Jalen Berger has been fired from the soccer program, the school said on Sunday.

Prior to this season, Berger was fortunate enough to be the Badgers’ best fullback. But he lost the starting position in favor of the transfer of Clemson Chez Mellusi, who got the bulk of the races with Braelon Allen.

Berger, a native of Newark, New Jersey, has played seven games in two years with the Badgers, carrying the ball 84 times for 389 yards and three touchdowns. He also had four receptions for 30 yards. Berger was not given a run in Saturday’s 24-0 win over Illinois, in which the Badgers’ running game was a major factor.

The school did not specify the reason for the dismissal. Berger was not sacked for problems off the pitch, a source told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

After Wisconsin’s victory, a reporter asked coach Paul Chryst about Berger’s role this season, but Chryst declined to answer the question directly.

“I liked the way Braelon and Chez were doing, and [Brady Schipper] played a role for us that I thought was right for Schip this week, ”he said.
