We will not be certain until the results of Cy Young's vote are announced in November. But we already know, right?

Jacob deGrom, throwing Wednesday night in unknown territory – The Mets have scored bushel of points for him! – put an exclamation point on another historic season in his last start of the year. He is now about to win a second consecutive prize, the Cy Young Award from the National League, and join some of the biggest names in the history of pitching in this rare feat.

He will also carve out a place in the tradition of Mets: No Met pitcher – not even Tom Seaver – has already won the Cy Young Awards twice in a row. And once deGrom wins again, he will join Seaver as the only Mets pitcher with more than one Cy Young.

DeGrom, who had 29 of 30 first-place votes to win the trophy last season, threw seven shots at the Marlins, allowing only two hits. It was his third consecutive start with seven shutouts and he finished his year with 23 consecutive scoreless goals.

No wonder even DeGrom admitted after the game that a second installment of material "was a bit on my mind" on Wednesday. But deGrom also worked hard to say what was right after his start, as the Mets were eliminated from the playoffs when the Brewers won. He was also talented at pitching, describing the mixed emotions of finishing so well personally at a disappointing evening for the team.

But it is difficult for the rest of us not to think of Cy Young, given the amazing set of statistics he has forged.

Here are some examples:

– DeGrom ended his season by withdrawing the last 14 batters he faced. He has 19 starts more than seven innings and more this season, leading the NL, and 25 starts in which he conceded two earned runs or less, also in the lead. deGrom has also launched seven innings in his last eight starts and 12 of his last 13.

– He has passed the 200-run mark for the third consecutive season – He is the only pitcher in the NL to have reached this record of the last three years – Dwight Gooden.

– He entered the second night at the NL of ERA and lowered it to 2.43. He also came to the head of the National League in BWAR and withdrawn. He finished second in the WHIP, OBP, FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) and scored in all nine rounds. He was fifth in the innings pitched.

– In the last two seasons, deGrom has achieved a 2.05 ERA in 64 starts. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, only three other throwers since 1969 recorded an ERA of less than 2.10 in two seasons during which they made at least 60 starts: Gooden in 1984-1985 (2.00), Greg Maddux in 1993-94 (2.01) and Clayton Kershaw in 2013-14 (1.80) and in 2014-15 (1.96).

Who knows what these figures would look like if DeGrom did not stumble in April. Could he have matched the wonderful 1.70 backstroke of last year if he had not suffered three bad starts against Minnesota, Atlanta and Milwaukee when he was 0- 3 with a medal of 9.69, yielding 14 points and 18 hits in 13 innings?

DeGrom looked sad Wednesday, talking about these bad starts. "I let them escape," he says. "I would have liked to get them back – that's the kind of thing you think about."

Just for fun, here's what his EER would be without these moves: 1.93.

Even with his ERA half a high, he should claim the Cy Young, joining 10 other pitchers who won twice in a row. Get a charge of these names: Max Scherzer, Sandy Koufax, Randy Johnson, Peter Martinez, Jim Palmer, Clayton Kershaw, Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Tim Lincecum and Denny McLain.

Six of them are members of the Hall of Famers, one (Scherzer) will be, and Clemens should also be present.

DeGrom would also be the 20th thrower to win more than a Cy Young award. Of course, time will tell if he will join the winner twice as Bob Gibson, Roy Halladay and Gaylord Perry at Cooperstown or he's going to be the author of a really great career, like Bret Saberhagen or Johan Santana.

But two Cy Youngs would put DeGrom one out of three. It would be historic too.
