With Trump’s backing, RNC chairman McDaniel set to run for another term

With the support of President Trump, Ronna McDaniel is expected to run for a third term as president of the Republican National Committee, according to a person close to the president of the RNC.

The president on Wednesday night took to Twitter to support McDaniel.

“I am happy to report that I have given my full support and approval to Ronna McDaniel to continue leading the Republican National Committee (RNC). With 72 MILLION votes, we received more votes than any sitting president in US history – and we will win! Trump tweeted.

Fox News, other news networks and the Associated Press announced on Saturday that Joe Biden would win the state of Nevada and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, giving the Democratic presidential candidate the electoral votes necessary to defeat Trump and become president-elect. But Trump has yet to concede, as he hopes a series of long-term lawsuits he has launched and a few reports in key states will reverse Biden’s victory.

A GOP source close to McDaniel confirmed to Fox News shortly after the president tweeted that the president intended to run for another term as head of the RNC, with Trump’s backing and expected support from both. Leading Republicans in Congress – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and House Minority Leader Representative Kevin McCarthy of California.

Trump backed McDaniel who is Utah Senator Mitt Romney’s niece for RNC chairman in 2017 after the then Michigan GOP chairman helped provide the key state of the battlefield for Trump during of the 2016 elections.

The 168 RNC members are due to elect the next president in January, when they meet for their winter meeting. The meeting will take place shortly after Trump leaves the White House and Biden’s inauguration.

McDaniel’s endorsement of Trump is a clear sign that he intends to play a key role in GOP politics even after he leaves the White House.
