More than 80 years after the premiere of the original film, Hollywood is considering a remake of “The Wizard of Oz”.
Nicole Kassell, who will direct the movie New Line Cinema, seemed well aware that she was going to be dealing with a classic story beloved by millions of people.
“Although the 1939 musical is in my DNA, I am elated and moved by the responsibility of reinventing such a legendary tale,” Kassell said, according to Variety. “The opportunity to examine the original themes – the quest for courage, love, wisdom and home – seems more timely and urgent than ever.

“These are deeply iconic shoes to fill in,” she added, “and I can’t wait to dance alongside these heroes from my childhood as we open up a newly created yellow brick road!
But Kassell’s version won’t be a musical, Billboard reported. New Line calls this a “new take” and “reinvention” of history, according to the report.
“The Wizard of Oz” was based on the children’s story by L. Frank Baum, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and the classic 1939 film starred Judy Garland as Dorothy, Ray Bolger in the movie. scarecrow, Margaret Hamilton in The Wicked Witch and others.
Efforts to remake or reinvent history included the 1970s Broadway show “The Wiz,” which later became a film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
Later came the hit show “Wicked” on Broadway.

In 2013, James Franco starred in a prequel titled “Oz the Great and Mighty”.
Other efforts were much less successful, according to the New York Post.
The flops included “The Wonderful Land of Oz” in the 1970s and “Return to Oz” in 1985, according to the report.
