Wolverines reach out to Juwan Howard

Rumors have been generalized in the search for Michigan basketball coaches and it was reported Friday that the Wolverines had contacted Juwan Howard.

With respect to Juwan Howard and Michigan basketball head coach, it remained to be determined whether the former Fab Five member would be interested in the position.

Howard has not formally expressed interest in the position, but according to Jordan Schultz from ESPNHoward told him that he had been contacted by Turnkey Sports, the research firm used by Michigan basketball and that the Wolverines were "very interested" in hiring the latter.

The news that Warde Manuel, director of Michigan sports, wants to talk to Howard is not necessarily revolutionary. He appeared to be a logical candidate from the beginning, however, it seems unlikely that Howard would relay this news to Schultz if he was not interested in continuing the work.

As things stand, Howard is one of the most attractive candidates not to lose his name. Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan both said no and it does not seem like other great coaches like Jay Wright, Chris Beard and Tony Bennett are achievable.

That leaves Michigan basketball with Howard, a Miami Heat assistant who has interviewed for several NBA head coach positions, including the Lakers and T-Wolves.

Other names most cited with Howard are Shaka Smart, head coach of Texas and LaVall Jordan, currently in Butler and former assistant John Beilein.

Howard does not have a head coaching experience. However, he learned with Erik Spoelstra and if the NBA teams consider him bright enough to become a professional head coach, Michigan should definitely talk to him.

Obviously, he would need to learn to recruit and there are some NBA adjustments to the college game, however, he is young and he played for the Wolverines so it should help him stay in Ann Arbor. he was taking this post.

Honestly, I never thought Howard would replace Beilein. Still, he is qualified and with guys like Donovan and Stevens passing by, he might be the best option.
