A beggar injured a two-year-old boy on the New York City subway on Saturday, the latest violent incident affecting the transit system.
The attack occurred around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon on a northbound C train in Manhattan.
The New York Post reports that the train was at West 116th Street and Douglas Boulevard when the beggar approached a mother and her son, who were sitting on the train, asking for money.

The beggar, who has not been identified, ignored this request and stepped on the woman’s left foot.
“Why did you step on me?” the mother asked, before the beggar started throwing his punches wildly, connecting with the toddler at least once.
The toddler was left with visible injuries to his face and ear.
The attack did not end until a witness removed the suspect from the mother and child.
An ambulance transported the boy to Mount Sinai-Saint-Luc and he was later released.
The suspect, meanwhile, was able to escape when the train reached the next station. She is described as being in her forties, heavy with a tattoo on her neck and a buzzcut. She was wearing a gray hoodie, faded jeans, boots and a white mask.
PIX11 reports that this was not the only subway attack in Harlem over the weekend.
On Sunday, a 32-year-old man was attacked on a northbound train 2 near 110th Street and the Lenox stop.

The man suffered slight lacerations to the extremities. The suspect in the attack, a man in dark clothes, also escaped arrest.
The attacks come amid a spike in subway violence in recent weeks for New York City.
A 21-year-old slasher was accused of killing two homeless people on the A train earlier in February and is being held without bail.

Transit workers are calling for a resumption of the 24-hour metro schedule, which was suspended in May to allow cleaning of stations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Employees claim that the night hours when the metro is not currently operating have become dangerous.
The MTA says five metro workers were assaulted during the night when the trains were closed.
Since August, there have been nearly 300 allegations of harassment against metro workers.
Two additional hours are currently being added to the operation of the system, although two hours will remain without service from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. each night for cleaning.
The MTA recently requested the deployment of 1,500 additional agents in the NYPD subway system.
Instead, the NYPD sent less than half of them on Tuesday, adding 644 police officers to subway stations.
The public transportation system has suffered greatly since the start of the pandemic, with ridership dropping by around 90% as people work from home more often.
