A woman waving a Trump 2024 flag drove her car into the Minnesota State Capitol grounds on Monday amid a press conference by a struggling Democratic state lawmaker.

Authorities said the woman, whom they identified as Tammi Jeka, drove her vehicle on the sidewalk during State Representative John Thompson (D) ‘s press conference on Capitol Hill.

After the soldiers told her to leave the scene and head for the causeway so that she could be cited, the woman drove onto the lawn instead, Bruce Gordon, director of communications for the Department of Communication, told NBC News. Minnesota Public Safety.

The woman at one point pulled into a nearby plaza, where she was heard arguing with several people who approached her vehicle, NBC News reported.

Two gendarmes took the keys to the vehicle and the woman was taken into custody. Police said she was taken to hospital for evaluation.

Thompson’s press conference came following calls for his resignation over previous accusations of domestic violence. Thompson last week was also found guilty of obstruction in a 2019 disruption.

The state legislator said at the press conference that he would not resign, a local CBS affiliate reported. His wife, Lea Thompson, who was present at the press conference and the alleged victim of several domestic violence complaints, also denied the claims were true.

“I am not now, and I have never been an abused woman,” said Lea Thompson, according to CBS affiliate WCCO. “I am not a victim of domestic violence.
