Even after several months of the coronavirus pandemic, movie studios and theaters are still considering the release of blockbuster titles, and Wonder Woman 1984 is slated for theatrical release over Christmas. With COVID-19 infections and deaths increasing across the country, it’s unclear if this will hold up, but Variety and Bloomberg report that Warner Bros. is negotiating with theater owners over a new exit strategy.

Apparently their big idea is to release it in theaters when possible, and potentially bring the movie to Warner’s HBO Max streaming service in a week or two. While movie theater owners have waived windows of exclusivity – AMC’s new deal with Universal brought it down to 17 days in some cases – allowing viewers to access them through a subscription service would be a major leap. According to BloombergWith HBO Max looking for big hit and theater owners needing the cash to stay afloat, Warner might just pay them to make it happen.
