Woodstock 2019: delayed ticket sales; the organizers deny the rumors of the cancellation

Tickets for Woodstock 2019 will not be on sale on Monday, April 22, as originally announced, according to several reports.

Billboard and Variety reports that the sale date of the Woodstock 50 ticket to Watkins Glen has been postponed for no explicit reason. The three-day festival celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock in 1969 is scheduled for August 16-18, 2019 – in less than four months – and prices have not yet been announced.

"The date of sale of Woodstock 50 is currently suspended. We are waiting for an official Woodstock 50 press release regarding the updated announcement, ticket prices and general festival information. We will send you this information as soon as we get it, "said a statement, according to Rolling Stone.

One possible explanation could be a delay in obtaining a mass collection permit from the New York State Department of Health.

"The Ministry of Health is currently studying the possibility of issuing a conditional permit to begin selling tickets," said Pitchfork, Schuyler County's administrator. O 'Hearn said that the Watkins Glen International circuit, located in Schuyler County, had not filed a license application until April 15th.

This is the second major delay in the development of Woodstock 50 after the initial announcement of the program in January. The interpreters were not revealed until mid-March; a star, the Black Keys, has already been withdrawn due to an unspecified "scheduling conflict".

As a result, rumors that Woodstock 50 could be canceled have begun circulating online. Woodstock Co-Founder and organizer of the 50th Anniversary Festival, Michael Lang, denied any concerns, calling them "just more rumors".

"Woodstock is a phenomenon that has attracted attention for 50 years on its principles as well as rumors that can be attached to this attention," he told Billboard in a statement.

Woodstock 50 will celebrate the golden anniversary of the original festival with three days of music on August 16 and 18, 2019 in Watkins Glen, New York, with a mix of original Woodstock performers and renowned artists. The lineup includes Jay-Z, Santana, Miley Cyrus, The Killers, Le Rapper Chance, John Fogerty (of Creedence Clearwater Revival), Dead and Company (with members of The Grateful Dead), Halsey, Robert Plant, Common, Janelle Monae , Sturgill Simpson, Brandi Carlile, Joe McDonald Country and Jack White's The Raconteurs.

It is unclear when tickets will go on sale or when prices will be announced. Lang revealed earlier this month that only three-day passes will be sold. No day tickets will be available. Camping options should also be offered.

More than 100,000 people are expected at Woodstock 50. Housing has quickly depleted in much of Watkins Glen and in other places in the Finger Lakes area, including in hotels in Corning, Elmira , Horseheads and Ithaca. Rooms may still be available on third-party sites such as Expedia and hotels.com; Fans are encouraged to check Airbnb and nearby cities like Syracuse and Binghamton for places to stay.

Approximately 400,000 people attended the first Woodstock Music and Art Festival, August 15-18, 1969, at Max Yasgur's dairy farm near White Lake in the Catskill Mountains. Performers include Richie Havens, Jefferson Airplane, Who, Joan Baez, Jimi Hendrix, Arlo Guthrie, Santana, Joe Cocker, Grateful Dead and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

The iconic concert was revisited in 1994 with a range of modern artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Sheryl Crow, Metallica, Cypress Hill and Red Hot Chili Peppers at Saugerties, but Woodstock's # 99 – held at the base Griffiss Air Force Air Force in Rome, NY – – put an end to the fun with riots, fires and allegations of sexual assault.
